Corrections Positions

Sutter County Sheriff's Office employes a full-time staff of Correctional
Officers as well as approximately 15 Reserve Correctional Officers within the
Corrections Section of the Jail Division.
Reserve Correctional Officers
Working along side full time staff during the training period, Reserve Correctional
Officers (a.k.a. Jail Reserve Officers) are then transitioned into fully trained
officers. We utilize reserve officers for all facets in the division including but
not limited to: booking, transportation, bailiff, civil and hospital coverage.
Reserve Correctional Officers undergo a three phase training program by which they
are evaluated each day they work. These officers are trained in every assignment in
the division including but not limited to: Single Cell Unit, Minimum
Facility, Floor Officer, Dorm Unit, Main Jail Control, Transportation, Bailiff/Courts,
Civil Division and Firearms.
Minimum qualifications of a Reserve Correctional Officer are that an applicant must be
at least twenty-one (21) years of age at appointment, possess a valid California
Drivers License and have a High School diploma or G.E.D. In addition, it is recommended
that an applicant has completed, prior to submiting an application, the 832 P.C. course
(Law of Arrest and Search & Seizure) with the Firearms Qualification Class or college
units in Police Science, Corrections or a closely related field. This position is paid
hourly at $6.50 and is non-benefited. The position is assigned to various shifts where
need exists.
The Reserve Correctional Officer position is a valuable asset to the division as we depend on
these individuals to supplement the full time staff, assist with extra duties and
special details.
Often, the Reserve Officers hold down full time jobs, and participate in our
program part-time for the job skills, training, knowledge and posses a unique interest
in this facet of Law Enforcement. When full time positions become available, our
Reserve Officers are often first to fill those vacancies.
