Effective 6/19/2020, the following services are now being made available for "in person" contact at the Sheriff's Office:
- All civil processes, except evictions and real property levies.
- Report requests for the public are available via phone or at the records counter.
- All CCW- initials requests, renewals and modifications will be online through Permitium, available on the Sheriff's Webpage.
- CCW applicants will be contacted to schedule "in person" appointments.
- Renewals/modifications will be processed and contacted with a time to pick up CCW.
- Vehicle release requests will be handled at the records counter, as needed.
- Registrants- these will be handled by "walk in" or by phone interview.
- Live scan services are available to the public by appointment only. Services will be scheduled in one hour time slots to allow for proper cleaning procedures. Appointments to the general public are available on Tuesdays from 8-11AM and on Thursdays 1-4PM
- In Person visiting is suspended once again at the Sutter County Jail in compliance with recommendations from the Board of State and Community Corrections. The public will be updated of additional changes as information becomes available.
About Us
The Sutter County Sheriff's Office is responsible for crime prevention, law enforcement, and criminal
investigation in the unincorporated areas of the County and in the City of Live Oak. We also service
a large portion of incorporated Yuba City under contract. We also operate a large element of the
Yuba Sutter Net-5 narcotics and Gang Task Force unit.
Our Correctional responsibilities include the operation of the County jail as well as providing
transportation to and from State prisons and for providing bailiff services for the Sutter County
Court system. On average we have over 300 inmates at any one time, process several thousand
bookings per year and put out over 27,000 meals per month.
Our Sheriff’s Civil Unit is responsible for the process and serving of all civil Summons and
Complaints, Summons and Petition, Claim of Plaintiff, Order of Examination, Order to Show Cause,
Temporary Restraining Orders, 3 Day after or 30 Day Notice to Quit, etc
Our Records Unit is responsible for the process of Live scan transmissions to the California Department of
Justice, Applicant fingerprinting, Parade, Solicitor, Explosive and Concealed weapons permits, process record
releases, process narcotics/sex/arson and gang registrants, etc.
Our Communications Unit handles all our 911 and other emergency dispatch calls for both sheriff and
fire and last year handled over 74,000 different calls for service just for law enforcement.
As the County Coroner, our office investigates all violent, sudden or unexplained deaths and those
deaths where there is no certified natural medical cause. Additionally, as the Public Administrator
for the County, the Sheriff's Office is responsible for the investigation of facts pertaining to the
death of persons with no known heirs, and the administration of their estate.
Consisting of 140 full-time personnel, our office is ready to serve and protect the citizens of
Sutter County. Our main operations office as well as the County Jail and Civil Division is
located in our Law Enforcement Center in Yuba City, with resident deputies assigned to some of
the outlying areas of the county. Our office maintains close working relationships with other law
enforcement agencies in the area and has mutual aid agreements with the California Highway Patrol,
the Yuba City Police Department, the Yuba County Sheriff Department, and the Marysville Police Department.
