Dispatch Unit
The Sutter County Communications Unit is a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). Our Communications Center has the responsibility of answering incoming 911 calls as well as non-emergency calls for service.
Radio-dispatching services for the Sheriff's Office as well as the Fire Department are provided by the Communications Center. At times we also assist and communicate with Animal Control, Public Works, and sometimes Fish & Game field personnel. Our center is manned twenty-four (24) hours, seven (7) days a week, with a minimum of two dispatchers on duty.
On July 1, 1999, the Sutter County Sheriff's Office began supplying EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatching) in which pre-arrival medical assistance and instructions are provided by the Dispatcher to the citizens of Sutter County.
In September 2020, our Dispatch Center became capable of receiving Text to 911 calls. It is not always feasible for a caller to use their voice when asking for help, so just remember to call if you can and text when you can't.
Important Things You Should Know When Calling 911
- The Dispatcher will inquire: What Happened?, Where are you?, and When did the incident occur?
- Remember 911 is used for life or death emergencies and crimes in progress.
- Keep the non-emergency telephone number ((530) 822-7307) readily available near your telephone.
- The successful implementation and operation of 911 systems rely upon the people who "make it work".
Misuse of the 911 System
It is misdemeanor under penal code section 148.3 for any person to willfully use the 911 system for any purpose other than reporting emergencies.
It is also a misdemeanor under penal code section 653x for any person who telephones the 911 emergency line with the intent to annoy or harass another person.
