Effective 6/19/2020, the following services are now being made available for "in person" contact at the Sheriff's Office:

  • All civil processes, except evictions and real property levies.
  • Report requests for the public are available via phone or at the records counter.
  • All CCW- initials requests, renewals and modifications will be online through Permitium, available on the Sheriff's Webpage.
    • CCW applicants will be contacted to schedule "in person" appointments.
    • Renewals/modifications will be processed and contacted with a time to pick up CCW.
  • Vehicle release requests will be handled at the records counter, as needed.
  • Registrants- these will be handled by "walk in" or by phone interview.
  • Live scan services are available to the public by appointment only. Services will be scheduled in one hour time slots to allow for proper cleaning procedures. Appointments to the general public are available on Tuesdays from 8-11AM and on Thursdays 1-4PM
  • In Person visiting is suspended once again at the Sutter County Jail in compliance with recommendations from the Board of State and Community Corrections. The public will be updated of additional changes as information becomes available.

Lieutenant Matt Maples grew up in Fair Oaks, California and graduated from Bella Vista High School in 1997. After graduating, he attended Sierra College and American River College and is currently working towards a Bachelor of Science Degree. In 2001 he attended the Sacramento County Sheriff's Academy and graduated in 2002.

Matthew started his career in law enforcement as a Reserve Police Officer for Wheatland Police Department in 2004. He later was hired full-time as a Police Officer by the City of Colusa and later worked full-time with the City of Wheatland as a Police Officer.

Matthew was hired as a Patrol Deputy by the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office in September of 2009. While working as a Patrol Deputy, Matthew also held the duties of Search and Recovery Diver, Resident Deputy and Rural Crimes Taskforce Member. Matthew was assigned to the Detective’s Unit in 2011, where he investigated felony cases and coroners’ investigations. In 2014, he was assigned to a Federal Narcotics and Economic Crimes Task Force in Sacramento. During his assignment in Sacramento, he investigated federal crimes including; mail fraud, credit card fraud, drug cultivation, drug manufacturing and drug trafficking.

In 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. During his time as a Sergeant, he supervised the Search and Recovery Dive Team and acts as the liaison between the Sutter County Sheriff’s Posse and the Sheriff’s Office.

Matthew was promoted to Lieutenant in July of 2018 and was assigned to the Detective's Unit as the Lieutenant and Chief Deputy Coroner for the County of Sutter.

Currently, he over sees the Training Section where he manages all the agency training which complies with California Peace Officer Standards of Training P.O.S.T and Board of State and Community Corrections B.S.C.C. He also manages the Concealed Weapon Permit Program C.C.W. and conducts interview with Sutter County Citizens who apply to receive a Concealed Weapons Permit. Lieutenant Maples also oversees the Hiring and Backgrounds of all Sutter County Sheriff’s Office personnel.

Lieutenant Maples is a current member and supervises the Search and Recovery Dive Team and is also a Liaison for the Sutter County Sheriff’s Posse and Yuba Sutter Aero Squadron.

Matthew and his Daughter Jasmyn live in Fair Oaks. Matthew enjoys spending his time off with his family, fishing, hunting and enjoying his beach house in Colonial Beach, Virginia.
