Sheriff's Message

Sheriff Badge

Greetings from the Office of the Sheriff. My name is Brandon Barnes and I am the 24th Sheriff elected to Sutter County. I am a long time Sutter County resident and my wife Jennifer, and I make our home in Live Oak. I decided to run for this office to better serve my community through strict enforcement practices and a community mindset for improving our quality of life. I have a bachelor’s degree in Police Administration and I am a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy, class 238. I was elected into office January of 2019 and I am honored to serve the Citizens of Sutter County.

As sheriff, I am committed to providing this office with a vision and direction that meets the needs of the evolving issues we face. I firmly believe in leading from the front and I will hold myself to the same standards I expect of my staff.

This office is dedicated to serving all aspects of our community. We provide wide variety of services under three divisions within the office. The Office provides patrol operations, jail management, court security, dispatch, records and civil services. We feature a Tactical Operations Team, a Dive and Search and Rescue Team, Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, Boat Patrol, Aero Squadron, a Narcotics Task Force, as well as many other services. Our diversity defines us.

If you asked me what sets us apart from other organizations, I will tell you it is the men and women that make up the Sheriff’s Office. I am privileged to work with some of the brightest, kindest and hard-working people I’ve known. They make this office and this community thrive.

Sutter County has a rich history. It was one of the original counties in 1850 when California became a state. Sutter County is named after agricultural visionary John Augustus Sutter, whom most people associate with Sutter’s Fort in Sacramento. Sutter County is comprised of 608 square miles and lays claim to some of the best agricultural land in the state. We are proud to work in partnership with our agricultural community.

We appreciate you taking the time to look over our office’s webpage. I am confident you will find the information or services you are looking for. We appreciate your feedback, as we will always strive to improve upon the services we provide. Thank you.
