Effective 6/19/2020, the following services are now being made available for "in person" contact at the Sheriff's Office:
- All civil processes, except evictions and real property levies.
- Report requests for the public are available via phone or at the records counter.
- All CCW- initials requests, renewals and modifications will be online through Permitium, available on the Sheriff's Webpage.
- CCW applicants will be contacted to schedule "in person" appointments.
- Renewals/modifications will be processed and contacted with a time to pick up CCW.
- Vehicle release requests will be handled at the records counter, as needed.
- Registrants- these will be handled by "walk in" or by phone interview.
- Live scan services are available to the public by appointment only. Services will be scheduled in one hour time slots to allow for proper cleaning procedures. Appointments to the general public are available on Tuesdays from 8-11AM and on Thursdays 1-4PM
- In Person visiting is suspended once again at the Sutter County Jail in compliance with recommendations from the Board of State and Community Corrections. The public will be updated of additional changes as information becomes available.

Captain Niswonger
Captain Chad Niswonger grew up in the Yuba-Sutter area and graduated from Marysville High School in 1991.
After graduating, he joined the military and served four years in the U.S. Navy. During his time in the
military, Chad served in Operation Desert Shield (Gulf War) and Operation Restore Hope (Somalia) and
received an Honorable Discharge in 1995. Chad started his career in law enforcement as a Correctional
Technician in the Sutter County Jail in 2000. He attended the full-time Yuba College Public Safety
Academy and was hired as a Patrol Deputy by the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office in March 2002. While
working as a Patrol Deputy, Chad also held the duties of Search and Recovery Diver, Range Master, Field
Training Officer and a Special Enforcement Detail Operator and Tactical Medic. Chad was also assigned
to the City of Live Oak for several years until his promotion to Sergeant Detective in May 2007.
During his time as a sergeant, Chad has supervised the Field Training Officer Program, Boating Safety Unit,
Detective’s Unit, Search and Recovery Dive Team, Special Enforcement Detail as the Assistant Team Leader,
and worked in NET-5 and the Gang Task Force. Chad was promoted to Lieutenant in March 2015 and assigned
to the Training Unit with the primary responsibility for managing background checks, CCW permits and
training for the Operations Division, Jail Division and Support Services Unit.
Chad holds an Associate in Science degree in Administration of Justice and a second degree in Personnel
Management from Yuba College. Chad and his wife Tessa have been married for over 20 years and have
two children, Elyssia and Ryan. During his off time, he enjoys spending time in the outdoors with his family.
