Sutter County Sheriff’s Office Tips to Prevent Delivery package Theft during the Holiday Season.

  • Have packages delivered to where you are, not where you are not. Consider having packages delivered to your office or place of employment instead of your home.
  • Use tracking numbers and delivery notification. Most major shipping services offer this free service and can send you a text or e-mail when your package arrives.
  • Ask family members, trusted neighbors and friends to accept deliveries on your behalf or to pick-up your packages.
  • Request packages be placed in a less conspicuous spot, such as a side door or behind a planter or garbage can.
  • Request a delivery time when you will be home.
  • Install a smart security camera at your front door.
  • Request a signature upon delivery.
  • Some companies and or shippers offer locker service or for packages to be held at the delivery distribution center for pick-up.
  • Keep an eye out for suspicious vehicles and people in your neighborhood and report suspicious activity to the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office at (530)822-7307.

Additionally residents should be aware of a secondary scan when identity thieves will order items and have them shipped to unaware third parties and use their front doors for drop locations. If you receive a package you didn’t order, please contact the shipping company as soon as possible and report the incident.

Thank you
