Seventh Annual Shop with a Cop Program

Thursday, December 19, 2013 2:00 PM

For Immediate Release:

The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Sutter County Sheriff’s Reserve Association and Yuba City Wal-Mart Supercenter sponsored the Seventh Annual Shop with a Cop Program. The event was held at the Yuba City Wal-Mart Supercenter, 935 Tharp Road, Yuba City, on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 6 pm.

Now in its seventh year, it has proven to be a huge success by the children involved, their parents, and the community of Sutter County. The Shop with a Cop Program involves law enforcement officers donating their time to take a group of children on a Christmas shopping spree. This program allows children grades K-12 to receive a $100 gift certificate to go Christmas shopping for their family members with a uniformed deputy. This year 17 Sutter County Schools participated with 33 children being selected for the program. The program provides children an opportunity to experience the personal rewards of giving to others. We are able to exchange smiles and laughter during this event with the community we serve and it is welcomed by everyone.

The event is funded solely by community donations. This year donations were received from the following:

Yuba City Wal-Mart Supercenter, Sutter Deputy Sheriff’s Association, Sutter County Sheriff’s Reserve Program, Sutter County Sheriff’s Posse Program, Sutter Volunteer Fire Association, United Bikers of California, Yuba City Kiwanis/YCHS Key Club, River Valley Community Foundation, Orchard Machinery Corporation, Lakeview Energy Services, Sweco Products Inc., Bianchi Ag Service, Holt of California, Martin’s Canvas, Alpine Roofing, Beach Hut Deli, Thread & Ink, Nelson Manufacturing, Office Depot, Sam’s Club, Sysco Foods, Chuck & Diane Phillips, Roguski Family, Gloria Tzintzun, Jon Messick, Bran Foster, as well as 30 Sheriff’s Office personnel who donated their time and money to this event.

Since its inception in 2007, the Shop with a Cop Program has grown from 5 children to 33 children this year. For more information, or to make a donation to, the Shop with a Cop Program, please contact Project Coordinator Deputy Wesley Schmidt at (530) 822-7307.
