Thursday, July 15, 2010 9:30 AM

For Immediate Release:
The Sutter County Sheriff’s Department and Applebee’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill are teaming together to raise funds for Special Olympics athletes on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Applebee’s Bar & Grill, 1000 Tharp Road, Yuba City.

Captain Dave Samson, Support Services Commander will lead a team of uniformed deputies
serving as “Celebrity Waiters” during the lunch hour of 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM and Captain
Lewis McElfresh, Operations Commander will lead a second team of deputies during the dinner hour from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The deputies will be assisting the servers with water service, setting and clearing tables, seating guests, etc.

Customers will be asked to support Special Olympics by placing a special “tip” in specially
marked envelopes at their tables. These tips will be used exclusively for the Yuba Sutter Special Olympics programs.

Tip-A-Cop is part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, a year-round
fundraising effort organized and managed by local law enforcement personnel from Federal,
Military, State, County and Local agencies. Funds are raised throughout the year through a
variety of events.

The mission of special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with developmental disabilities by giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Special Olympics programs are free to all eligible athletes ages 8 and older. Special Olympics receive no federal funding – financial support comes almost exclusively from generous individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations. All funds raised through the Tip-ACop program directly benefit athletes in the county in which the funds are raised.
