Boating Safety Inspection

Friday, June 18, 2010 9:00 AM

For Immediate Release:
The Sutter County Sheriff’s Boating Safety Patrol will be conducting a Boating Safety
Inspection in conjunction with Operation Dry Water on Saturday, June 26, 2010, between the hours of 12:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. The Boating Safety inspection will take place on the
Sacramento River in south Sutter County.

Last summer, agencies and organizations from 46 states and 5 territories participated in the first ever Operation Dry Water weekend. Over that three-day weekend, 2,442 marine law
enforcement officers made contact with 17, 454 recreational vessels and issued 5,320 boating safety warnings, 283 boating under the influence (BUI) citations and 1,127 citations for other violations. This included deputies from the Sutter County Boating Safety Patrol. This year, all 56 states, trusts and territories are expected to participate, searching for boat operators whose alcohol or drug impairment makes them a danger to other boaters.

In addition to the safety inspections, Boating Safety Deputies will be distributing informational
material to boaters as they pass through.

Operation Dry Water is a joint program of Sutter County Sheriff’s Department, the National
Association of State Boating Law Administrators, the U.S. Coast Guard and other state agencies.  More information is available at
