On Thursday, June 10, 2010, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Detectives from Sutter County Sheriff’s Department and members of the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, Oregon, including the Special Activities and Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Team and Critical Incident Negotiations Team (CINT) responded to the 1000 block of SW J Street, Grants Pass, Oregon to serve an arrest warrant on Michael Shaine Dwayne Gold, 39 years old. Sutter County Sheriff’s Detectives believe Gold is connected to the human remains found in south Sutter County in November 2009 and March 2010.

Sutter County Sheriff’s Detectives also arrested Gold’s mother, Lela Kathryn McDonald, 57 years old, in her West Sacramento home at approximately 5:30 p.m., Thursday, June 10, 2010, in connection with this case.

The victim was Elmer Eugene McDonald, 60 years old, Lela McDonald’s husband and Michael Gold’s stepfather.

Elmer McDonald’s remains were identified through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) Bureau of Forensic Services DNA lab.
