25th Annual National Night Out

Tuesday, July 1, 2008 3:00 PM

For Immediate Release:

Sheriff Paul Parker invites all Sutter County residents to join the men and women of the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department in participating in the 25th Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention on Tuesday, August 5, 2008.

National Night Out is “American’s Night Out Against Crime” and has grown from 2.5 million participants in its first year to over 34 million last year. Over 10,000 communities participated last year alone in an effort to heighten crime and drug awareness and strengthen neighborhood spirit and law enforcement community partnerships. National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and is co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance and the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department.

From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on August 5th, residents in neighborhoods throughout Sutter County, and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement personnel. As in the past years, many neighbors throughout Sutter County will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, neighborhood strolls and children’s activities. You are encouraged to organize your own event and bring your neighbors together for this event.

Members of the Sheriff’s Command Staff, K-9 Unit, Boat Patrol, Swift Water Rescue, Special Enforcement Detail (SWAT), and Divers will be visiting the neighborhoods during this event.

If you would like to host an event in your neighborhood, don’t delay. Organizing early ensures a successful event. Please join us in celebrating the 25th Anniversary of National Night Out. If you would like to sign up your neighborhood, contact Sergeant Chad Niswonger or Captain Dave Samson at 822-7307. In the Live Oak area, please contact Sergeant Glenn Mercer at the Live Oak Substation at 695-2122.

You can pledge your support by completing a National Night Out Participation Form for your neighborhood. Forms are available at the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department, 1077 Civic Center Blvd, Yuba City or on the Sheriff’s Department web site at
