
Lieutenant Suman (Sam) Basi is a lifelong resident of Sutter County and a 2000 graduate of Yuba City High School. Following high school, he pursued higher education at Yuba College, Butte College, and California State University, Chico. In 2008, Suman graduated from the Yuba College Police Academy, marking the beginning of his law enforcement career.
In 2009, Suman joined the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office as a Reserve Deputy, and by 2012, he was hired as a full-time Patrol Deputy. During his tenure as a Patrol Deputy, he served as a Field Training Officer, Bike Patrol, and became a member of the Special Enforcement Detail, where he ultimately rose to the rank of Team Leader.
Suman was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2018, where he served on both night and day shifts. In 2022, he transitioned to the Investigation Unit, overseeing a wide range of complex investigations. In January of 2025, Suman was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and is currently the Training Manager and CCW coordinator.
Suman resides in Yuba City with his wife, Pam, their two children, Jaya and Darryn, and their dog, Moose. In his free time, Suman enjoys traveling the world with his family and friends.
