Patrol Section - Lieutenant Russell Porter

Lieutenant Porter
Russell Porter holds the rank of Lieutenant and currently is one of two Lieutenants who manage the daily
operations of the Patrol Section.
Beginning his career in law enforcement in 1983, Lieutenant Porter has served the Sutter County Sheriff’s
Department for more that twenty-five years. Prior to earning the rank of Lieutenant, Russell held the
ranks of Deputy, Corporal, and Sergeant. Lieutenant Porter has completed assignments in the Patrol Division,
the Special Enforcement Detail (SWAT), the Live Oak Contract area, and the Detective Division.
Born in Yuba City, Lieutenant Porter has also lived in Juneau and Fairbanks, Alaska, as well as Sparks, Nevada,
while growing up. After graduation from Yuba City High School, Lieutenant Porter attended Cal Poly State University
in San Luis Obispo from 1978-1982, and he entered the Basic Police Academy at Allan Hancock College in Santa
Maria California in 1983.
Russell lives with his wife, April, and children in Marysville. He enjoys piloting light aircraft,
riding his Harley, hunting, fishing, snow skiing, water skiing, and scuba diving.
