Captain Lewis McElfresh
Captain Lewis F. McElfresh, Jr. moved to the Yuba City area in 1991, after serving in Operations Desert
Shield and Desert Storm. Having served a combined 22 years in the active Army and Army Reserves, Captain
McElfresh retired as a Chief Warrant Officer Three. During his service he was a Military Police Officer,
a Military Police Investigator assigned to a Drug Suppression Team, and retired as a Criminal
Investigator. Captain McElfresh served with distinction in the Persian Gulf War receiving a Bronze Star
Medal for Meritorious Service.
In January 1993, Captain McElfresh was hired as a Sutter County Sheriff's deputy, promoted to sergeant
in 2000, and Captain in 2006. His past assignments include the patrol division, detective division and
boat unit. His specialized assignments include Field Training Officer, Dive Recovery Team, Swift Water
Rescue Team and Special Enforcement Detail. Captain McElfresh has been on the Special Enforcement Detail
since August 1994, first as a Team Member, six years as the Team Leader, and has been the Tactical
Commander since 2006.
Captain McElfresh received his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix
in 1999. In 2008 Captain McElfresh attended the FBI National Academy at the FBI Academy in Quantico
Virginia and on September 12, 2008, graduated from the 234th session of the FBI National Academy. He
enjoys spending his free time with his wife Kristin and daughter Alexandriah and loves to ride motocross.
